Default Is it possible...

To use an ability to handle physical pain, to handle mental pain? For example anxiety and stress?

Ever since I was a baby I've had a greater ability to handle physical pain but the ability to handle mental pain has always evaded me. I was the child who never cried when stuck with a needle and watched while it was done or watched while the surgeon tore his finger nail off because of a giant splinter lodged in it. I'm also the child who cried his face off just because a situation didn't feel good. Looking back, at times my parents gave off some horrible 'vibes' and I remember picking up on this even as a baby and literally just crying or trying to hide in some way. They weren't bad people or abusive but they were stress heads and now I am too.

I'm just wondering if I need to try using the same natural techniques that occur to me when I'm being physically hurt but when I'm feeling stressed out or nervous. Has anyone ever managed this? Is it likely to work?

I've been trying the 'mindfulness meditation' for 2 x 20 mins each day for a couple of days and although it's still early, so far, I like that it seems to stop the endless loop of insanity that can sometimes start when you're pissed off or over thinking something etc. So far so good .
